Over the past couple years the music industry has been taken over mostly by the money bragging hip hop artists. The shallow lyrics and flashy lifestyle has come to a stale mate. People are no longer wanting to hear about how many bitches you have or how many shoes are in your closet. They are looking for more authentic lifestyle lyrics that they can relate to. The kanye-god like attitude is becoming to taste sour in the mouths of the new youth.
Two or more years ago people started to drift back into the 90’s. Firstly with the clothing and style. Now you will see many younger people dressing with a darker look. Goth pop style, crop tops, chokers and platforms. Obviously there is a new take on it but the similarities are uncanny. People are tired of the judgey hipster vibe, you were either in or out. And ‘The out’ always seemed to be stuck in a rut of a misplaced hip-hop look or just floating somewhere in between aimlessly.
We are very close coming to a wave of new mixed genre in the most radical sense. These people like to dress a certain way, but also like to listen to rock or hip hop or trance. Its allowing people to be removed from boxes and placed in a mixed culture environment. Where cool has no definition, rather cool is the attitude you carry across. There is a rebellion of classifications happening. You don’t have to be a certain race, culture or class to belong. Neither do you have to be this kind of person who listens to that kind of music.
Now the music style is moving up 90’s style. More and more trendy places play the old school heavy beat hip-hop. The stuff you used to listen to and the lyrics would touch your soul and the beat mirror your heart. The sound was smooth, relaxing and deep, a controlled rhythm for the perfect matching lyrics. 2pac was one of the many legends of hip-hop who knew that he had a responsibility to communicate the importance of genuine life lyrics. So that people could see what was actually happening in the ‘hoods’ and what was wrong with society today. It’s the black or white, straight line modern mix up. It’s the Helvetica BOLD… with soul.
The beauty of this is now the influence will come back in a more poetic manner in which the youth have a deeper understanding of art and other. There will be no ‘judgeys’ if you like to dress gothcool and love your hip-hop. Or the other way around. No longer are the skaters isolated into punk. Hip-hop classiq will and is the new universally ultra cool. The breaking down of old barriers will allow and accept this new fantastic metamorphosis.
